Explicit Teaching & Inquiry Learning in the Big Picture Design for Learning
Explicit Teaching is often posited as the antithesis of Inquiry Learning, however, the two are not mutually exclusive and can co-exist on a spectrum from teacher-led learning through to guided independence. This article considers the ways in which the Big Picture design for learning combines the best of explicit teaching and inquiry approaches to learning, in order to reflect how we learn in life and at work; through a mixture of real-world need, guidance, and intellectual curiosity.
